Rights Respecting School

A Rights Respecting School not only teaches about children’s rights, it also models rights and respect in all its relationships, whether between children or between children and adults.

At Bishopston Primary School every aspect of a child is focused on the area of well-being. Our missions statement is “to care for one another and be the best that we can be“. Receiving the Level 2 Award is a recognition that we help our pupils to grow into confident, caring and responsible young citizens both in school and within the wider community. By learning about their rights, our pupils also learn about the importance of respecting the rights of others i.e. their responsibilities.

Bishopston Primary School pupils are encouraged to reflect on how their behaviour and actions affect those around them, which allows us to build and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all, both in the classroom and around the school grounds.  We use ‘Restorative Practice‘ to help deal with issues that arise within the school.

We have a Rights Respecting School Committee led by our pupils. Their role is to make sure that every child within our school feels as though they have a ‘voice’ and that they are listened to and treated fairly.
