Meet the Teachers/ Athrawon

The Management Team

I'm Mr Owen, the Headteacher of the school. We do our utmost here to make the motto come alive "to care for one another and be the best that we can be". We aspire to ensure values of kindness, generosity, etc are a real part of the school community. As a result, for staff and children school is great fun - most of the time! It's a place where we all put in a shift to do a good day's work, but we're able to have a giggle as we go.

Hello! My name is Mrs Beynon and I am the Deputy Headteacher of the school. I am one again teaching Year 5/6 this year in the Sky Phase! I have taught at Bishopston for 6 years, I feel incredibly lucky to work in such a lovely school with beautiful grounds for lots of outdoor learning. I always aim for my classroom to be a fun, welcoming place to be where no one is afraid to make a ‘marvellous’ mistake as part of their learning journey.

Hello! My name is Mrs Ellis, I have taught in Bishopston for over 10 years now! I am the Foundation Phase leader. Foundation Education is the area that I am most passionate about. I believe in allowing children to develop through exploration and I always strive to create fun, hands on practical activities so that children will enjoy their learning and experience success.

Foundation Phase Teachers

Shwmae! My name is Mrs. Thomas and I teach Reception in Sea Phase.  I am also literacy and outdoor learning lead.  I have been teaching here for the last 6 years.  What a wonderful five years it has been! I attended Bishopston Primary as a child and still live locally with my two children.  We have lots of pets – two dogs, two lizards and a tortoise.  My hobbies are running, swimming and cycling – anything outdoorsy really.  I drive a campervan and love to travel too – I’m really interested in different languages and cultures.  At the weekend you'll find me at the beach - rain or shine!

Hello! I’m Ms Melling. I am one of the Year 1/2 Land Phase teachers and share my job with the wonderful Mrs Gorvett. I am extremely passionate about teaching all areas of the curriculum through a fun, dynamic and creative way. I especially love engaging the pupils  in their learning through the use of drama and local history. This supports and develops the pupils literacy skills in a fun and unique way.  If you are luckily enough to be in my class you will be leaving as a film star!!

Hello! I’m Mrs Gorvett, I am one of the Year 1/2 Land Phase teachers and share my job with the wonderful Ms Melling. I am passionate about teaching all areas of the curriculum particularly Literacy, Forest School, Art, Outdoor Learning and PE, I am crazy about all sports! I always love to see the children in my class happy and smiling and always remind them that each and everyone of them are special and unique.

Hello! I’m Mrs Cowling, but some of you may have older brothers or sisters who knew me as Miss Leentfaar. I have taught in Bishopston Primary school for over 12 years.  I lead maths in the school, run the Rights committee and provide the dance club.  I am really looking forward to teaching in the Mountain Phase (Year 3/4) this year; being creative, exploring outdoors and tackling challenges!

Croeso, My name is Mrs Barrow and I am one of the year 3/4 Mountain Phase teachers. This is my 4th year at Bishopston Primary school and I absolutely love everything about it. We have the best location, resources, teaching staff and of course the children! I am passionate about teaching and promoting the wonderful Welsh language within our school and wider community.  I believe that learning should be fun and exciting and that we should use the outdoors at every opportunity.   I am also the ALN Coordinator, I work to support all our children who have additional needs as they journey through our lovely school.

Key Stage 2 Teachers

Shwmae! I’m Mr. Evans and I am so pleased to be one of the Mountain Phase (Y 3/4) teachers and I can’t wait to get to know you. I enjoy planning fun and exciting lessons and I love all sports especially football!  I speak fluent Welsh, and am looking to always improve Welsh in the school. I am really looking forward to this year – I’m sure it’s going to be great!

My name is Mr Elias, and I am a member of the Sky Phase teaching team at Bishopston! I have taught since 2009, and love teaching anything from maths to modern foreign languages, from ICT to science, as well as sporting and residential activities. I cannot wait to get started in Sky Phase, and I want to make my classroom a place of laughter, individual growth and learning!  I live in the countryside surrounded by beautiful mountains with my wife and 3 busy children, and I love nothing more than being outside with them and our dogs. I enjoy coaching and travelling around the country with my son’s many sporting ventures, and my other hobbies include interior design, photography and drinking lots of coffee! I am very much looking forward to the year ahead

Hi! I’m Mr Williams and I am one of the Year 5/6, Sky Phase, teachers. I hope we’re in for a great year! I enjoy using the outdoors, coaching rugby, using new ideas in ICT and teaching Art skills. I am really looking forward to this year.

Shwmae! My name is Mrs. Eager, and I currently teach Year 5/6 alongside the wonderful Mrs. Beynon. With experience in both primary and secondary education, I bring a diverse teaching background. I am also an English teacher at Pontarddulais Comprehensive School, which I hope will help make the transition to 'Big School' smoother for the pupils. Living locally with my family, I enjoy spending time outdoors, especially at the beach. Some of my passions include reading, running, playing netball, and singing in a choir. As this is my first year at Bishopston, I’m thrilled to join such a fantastic school community, where the pupils and staff have already made me feel incredibly welcome.
