🌟 Croeso i Derbyn! 🌟
We're delighted to be sharing this exciting journey with you and your child. Our main priority is helping every child feel happy, safe and confident as they settle into school life, make friends, develop independence and discover a love of learning along the way 📚✨.
We pride ourselves on providing a nurturing, inclusive and stimulating environment where every child feels valued, supported and free to be themselves 🌈💖.
To help the school day run smoothly, please take note of the following:
Please label everything 🏷️ including coats, jumpers, water bottles, wellies and all uniform items. Things do occasionally get misplaced and clear labels make it much easier for us to return items quickly. Thank you for your support with this 🙏.
We encourage school uniform and recommend clothing that children can manage independently, such as elasticated waistbands and Velcro shoes 👟. This is particularly important for toileting 🚽 and for changing on Forest School and P.E. days.
All children should keep a full change of clothes in their bag 👕🩳🧦 in case of accidents or if they get wet or muddy 🌧️. We have some spare clothes in school but supplies are very limited - having their own familiar clothing helps children feel comfortable, particularly those with sensitivities.
Forest School takes place every Monday. Please provide named wellies and waterproof clothing 🥾🧥. Waterproof suits are ideal as they provide the best protection from the weather and mud.
Children will change into their Forest School clothes at school, so practising dressing and undressing independently at home will really help build confidence and independence 👏💚.
Children should come to school dressed in their P.E. kit every Friday.
P.E. kits should include:
✅ A T-shirt
✅ Shorts or joggers
✅ Suitable trainers 👟
As we regularly learn and play outdoors, please ensure children have footwear suitable for running and active play.
Please send book bags into school on Tuesdays. They will be returned on Thursdays.
Inside your child's book bag you will find their reading record, book and any other important learning materials. We strongly encourage daily reading at home 📚❤️.
Sharing books together has a huge impact on children's vocabulary, language development and confidence with reading.
Homework will be shared monthly via Seesaw 💻. Activities will always be play-based and designed to be enjoyable rather than pressured.
Homework is completely optional and provides opportunities for you and your child to spend quality time together talking, exploring ideas and sharing learning in a relaxed way 😊. These conversations are incredibly valuable and help strengthen children's understanding and confidence.
Children should bring one healthy snack each day, such as:
🍎 Fruit
🧀 Cheese
🥛 Yoghurt
We enjoy snack time together as part of our daily routine, helping children develop independence and social skills 😊.
As a healthy school, sweets 🍬, chocolate 🍫, crisps 🍟 and sugary drinks 🥤 are not permitted.
All children are entitled to a free hot school meal 🍛. Please see the office for further information.
If your child does not wish to have a school meal, you may send a packed lunch instead. Please ensure it is in a clearly named lunchbox or bag 🎒.
🚫 Important: We are a nut-free school due to severe allergies. Please do not send any nuts or nut-based products.
We are always happy to answer questions and support you throughout your child's Reception year. Please don't hesitate to speak to a member of the team if you need anything 😊.
🌟 We are really looking forward to getting to know you and your child and working together to make Reception a happy, positive and memorable experience. Thank you for your continued support. It truly makes a difference. 💖
