Online and Mobile Phone Safety

Mobile Phone and Online Safety

Why Staying Safe Matters

Phones are fun to use for chatting, games, videos, and learning new things. But sometimes things can happen that don’t feel good. You might:

  • Lose your phone or have it taken

  • Receive messages that are unkind

  • Share something you later wish you hadn’t

  • Talk to someone who isn’t who they say they are

  • See something online that makes you feel worried or upset

If anything like this happens, you are never alone. You can always talk to an adult you trust.

Tips to Keep You and Your Phone Safe

1. Use a Passcode

Put a strong passcode on your phone so only you can unlock it.
Try not to use something easy like your birthday.

2. Keep Your Phone With You

Keep it in a safe pocket or bag.
Don’t hand it to someone unless you completely trust them.

3. Be Careful With Public WiFi

WiFi in places like cafés or shops isn’t always safe.
Someone might see what you’re doing online, so try to avoid using it if you can.

4. Check App Permissions

Some apps may want to know your location or see your photos.
Check what you are agreeing to before you press “allow.”

5. Add an ICE Contact

ICE means “In Case of Emergency.”
Add a trusted adult’s phone number to your contacts so someone can reach them if needed.

6. Be Careful Who You Talk To

Not everyone online tells the truth about who they are.
Stick to talking with people you know in real life.

7. Think Before You Share

Once you send a message, picture, or video, you can’t always control who sees it.
Someone could screenshot it or show it to others.
Only share things you feel completely comfortable with.

If Something Doesn’t Feel Right

If something online makes you worried, confused, upset, or scared, talk to a trusted adult as soon as you can.
You never have to handle a problem on your own — there will always be someone who wants to help you feel safe again.

Bishopston Primary School Phone Rules

At Bishopston Primary, we know that some children bring a mobile phone to school to help them stay safe on the way to and from school. That’s okay — but phones must not be used during the school day.

Here’s what you need to remember:

  • Phones must be turned off as soon as you arrive at school.
  • You must hand your phone to your teacher at the start of the day. They will keep it safe for you.
  • You won’t be able to use your phone during school time, including break and lunch.
  • At the end of the day, your teacher will give your phone back to you to take home safely.

These rules help keep everyone safe, focused, and ready to learn.
