Sea Phase (Reception/Derbyn) – Mrs Thomas

Mrs Thomas - Reception Teacher / Athrawes Dosbarth Derbyn

Welcome to Reception! 😊

We’re so excited to begin this journey with you and your precious little one! Our main priority is helping your child settle happily into school life, making friends 🤝, building confidence 💪, and learning lots of exciting new things along the way 📚✨. We pride ourselves on creating a nurturing, safe, and stimulating environment 🌈 where every child feels valued, supported and free to be themselves 💖.

A few things that will make things a little easier for everyone:

Clothing & Labelling 👕🧤

Please label absolutely everything 🏷️ – from coats to water bottles, wellies to jumpers. Things go missing all the time, and a clear label really helps us return items to the right owner quickly 🔍. We really appreciate your help with this 🙏.

We encourage school uniform and recommend clothes that your child can manage independently (e.g. elasticated trousers, Velcro shoes) 👖👟. This is especially important for toileting 🚽 and changing on Forest School and P.E. days.

All children will need to keep a change of clothes in their bags in case of accidents, or in case they get wet or dirty.  We do not have a stock of spare clothes in school. It's much easier if children keep things that fit them / that they find comfortable in their own bags.  This also saves upset for children who may experience sensory difficulties.

Forest School – Mondays 🌳🐞

Forest School takes place every Monday. Please provide named wellies and waterproofs 🧥🧽. These can be kept at school Your child will change into their Forest School clothes at school, so please encourage them to practise dressing and undressing at home to build independence 👏. Thank you! 💚 The rubber-feel suits are best as they are most water-resistant.

P.E. – Wednesdays 🏃‍♀️🏅

Children can come to school wearing their P.E. kits on Wednesdays.
P.E. kits should include a T-shirt and shorts or joggers 👕👖. In warmer months ☀️, we’ll be doing lots of outdoor P.E., so please also send in a pair of trainers suitable for running and playing outside 👟⚽.

Book Bags – Tuesdays & Thursdays 📘📅

Please send book bags into school on Tuesdays. They will be sent home again on Thursdays. Please do not send book bags in late.

Snack & Drink 🍎🥤

Children will need to bring one piece of fruit, a yoghurt, or a piece of cheese each day for snack time 🍌🍓. We all sit down together to enjoy our fruit and a drink, helping to build routine and social skills 😊. We are a healthy school - sweets, chocolate, crisps and sugary drinks are not permitted.

Lunchtime 🥪🍽️

Children are entitled to free hot school dinners 🍛. Please speak to the school office 🏫 if you have any questions or queries about this. If your child does not like either of the dinner options you will need to provide a packed lunch.  Of course you may wish to send a packed lunch anyway - 🥗 please ensure it’s in a clearly named lunch box or bag 🎒.

Please note: we are a nut-free school 🚫🥜, due to severe allergies among children and staff. Kindly avoid sending any nuts or nut-based products 🙅‍♀️🙅‍♂️.

We’re really looking forward to getting to know you and your child 💕. Thank you for all your support – it means so much and helps make the school experience a happy one for everyone! 🌟

If you have any questions at any point, please don’t hesitate to speak to us 💬.

Diolch,
Mrs T and the Reception Team 😊
