Sea Phase (Reception/Derbyn) – Mrs Thomas

Mrs Thomas - Reception Teacher / Athrawes Dosbarth Derbyn

Croeso i Derbyn! 😊

We’re delighted to be starting this exciting journey with you and your child. Our main priority is helping every child feel happy, safe and confident as they settle into school life, making friends, developing independence and discovering a love of learning along the way 📚✨.

We pride ourselves on providing a nurturing, inclusive and stimulating environment where every child feels valued, supported and free to be themselves 🌈💖.

To help the school day run smoothly, please take note of the following:

Clothing and Labelling 👕🧤
Please label everything 🏷️ including coats, jumpers, water bottles, wellies and all uniform items. Things do occasionally go missing and clear labels make it much easier for us to return items quickly. Thank you for your support with this 🙏.

We encourage school uniform and recommend clothing that children can manage independently such as elasticated waistbands and Velcro shoes. This is particularly important for toileting 🚽 and for changing on Forest School and P.E. days.

All children should keep a full change of clothes in their bag in case of accidents or if they get wet or muddy. We do not keep spare clothes in school and having their own familiar clothing helps children feel comfortable particularly those with sensory sensitivities.

Forest School, Mondays 🌳🐞
Forest School takes place every Monday. Please provide named wellies and waterproofs 🧥. Rubber style suits are best as they are the most water resistant. These items can be kept in school.

Children will change into their Forest School clothes at school so practising dressing and undressing at home will really help build confidence and independence 👏. Thank you 💚.

P.E., Wednesdays 🏃‍♀️🏅
Children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit on Wednesdays.
P.E. kits should include a T shirt and shorts or joggers. During warmer months ☀️ we spend lots of time outdoors so please ensure your child has trainers suitable for running and active play 👟.

Book Bags, Reading and Home Learning 📘📅
Please send book bags into school on Tuesdays. They will be returned on Thursdays. Book bags should not be sent in on other days or brought in late as this helps us manage routines consistently. Inside your child’s book bag you will find their reading book and any other important learning materials. We strongly encourage daily reading at home. Sharing books together each day has the biggest impact on children’s vocabulary, language development and confidence with reading. This might include listening to your child read, reading to them or simply talking about the story and pictures. Short, regular reading sessions are far more valuable than longer sessions less often.

Homework 📚🏡

Homework will be set monthly via Seesaw and will always be play based. Homework is optional and is designed to be enjoyable, rather than pressured. It offers a chance for you and your child to spend quality time together, talking, exploring ideas and sharing learning in a relaxed way. These conversations are incredibly valuable and help strengthen children’s understanding and confidence.

Snack and Drink 🍎🥤
Children should bring one healthy snack each day such as a piece of fruit, yoghurt or cheese. We enjoy snack time together which supports routine, independence and social skills 😊. As a healthy school sweets, chocolate, crisps and sugary drinks are not permitted.

Lunchtime 🥪🍽️
All children are entitled to a free hot school meal 🍛. Please contact the school office 🏫 if you have any questions about menus or provision. If your child does not like either of the daily meal options or if you prefer you may send a packed lunch. Please ensure it is in a clearly named lunchbox or bag 🎒.

🚫 Important: We are a nut free school due to severe allergies. Please do not send any nuts or nut based products.

We’re really looking forward to getting to know you and your child and working together to make Reception a happy and positive experience 🌟. Thank you for your continued support. It truly makes a difference.

If you have any questions at any point please don’t hesitate to speak to us 💬.
